Jan, 2011 Dear Supporting Churches and Praying Friends, "GOD'S HAND OF GRACE AND HIS PERFECT TIMING" Sometimes, as a result of our wanting to accomplish as much for the Lord as we can in as little time as possible, we push ourselves too hard for too long and God finds it necessary to call us aside from our work for a season, and bids us to be still, recoup, and then He sends us on our way again to minister. My wife Mary is often guilty of pushing herself too hard for too long and this is one of those times. She had gotten a bad cold about Christmas time and had barely gotten over that when she came down with a very bad virus that was going around here. Between the fever, the diarrhea, and the vomiting, she became very weak and anemic which also caused her lupus to flair up. She was just beginning to recover from that when she acquired another complication which caused a tear and polyps that needed immediate attention. Just when we needed a miracle, we met a group of Americans down town and asked them what they were doing here. They explained that they were a group of American doctors and nurses who were here for 10 days (in Barahona) doing surgeries at the Government Hospital! I asked if there was any way that they could take a look at Mary and they said to bring her in the next morning at 8:30 AM and they would take a look at her. Within 1 hour from checking her out, they had her in surgery to repair the damage. She lost a lot of blood from the surgery and because she was already anemic, she had to have 2 blood transfusions. Fortunately, my sister and I are both the same blood type as Mary, and we went down and donated our blood so that they could give her the transfusions that she needed without having to use the blood here. This team was not only a blessing to Mary but also helped a man in the church in Barahona, (Joslyn) who needed hernia surgery and a little girl in the church in Barahona, (Dominga) who has had Meningitis and was partially paralyzed. They helped her find the treatments that she needed so that she will be able to walk again. We praise God for His hand of grace and that He sent this surgical team, here, right to our little town of Barahona. His timing is always perfect and His ways are always wonderful. Not only was His timing perfect to have this surgical team here, but He also sent Jon and Mischa Houston back over here at just the right time. They will be here with us for another 6 weeks or so. Mischa is a retired nurse and has been a tremendous blessing in helping Mary with all she needs. Mary is out of the hospital and back home now recuperating and is doing fine. Please keep her in your prayers that she will get her strength back and be back on her feet soon working by my side in the ministry. “PRAISES AND PRAYER REQUESTS” PRAISES: 1) We thank God for the 27 more souls that were saved this month so far. 2) For God meeting all the needs for Mary's health issues. 3) For the spirit of the churches and Bible College. 4) We have another container coming in sometime the first to the middle of Feb. and when this medical team found out, they decided to donate the needed funds to get it cleared through customs on this side! Praise God for their sensitivity and compassion for the people here. PRAYER REQUESTS: 1) The political situation of Haiti, and the still terrible conditions of the country since the earthquake. 3) For more men to be called into full time ministry. 4) For God to bless with more souls being saved each month. 5) For healing for Mary, Dominga, and Joslyn.
