Bob Johnston and Mary Backs started their lives together on June 30th 1974 in God's Union of Marriage,
After making their home in Central Illinois, and giving birth to their 1st born (Dawn Marie) they started
attending an Independent Baptist Church in the near by City of Springfield, and God did the rest,....
After making Jesus Christ their personal Lord and Savior and giving birth to a baby boy (Eric Scott), God
called them to be Missionaries, but it wasn't clear to them just where to go, "Maybe Hawaii or Jamaica?"
They soon started College together at Fellowship Baptist College in East Peoria Ill., while enrolled in Bible
College they traveled part-time for the Fellowship Baptist College Quartet (FBCQ), Bob sang Bass, Mary
sang Soprano, and a man by the name of Henry Doherty sang the Lead part, these three stayed faithful to the Quartet
even when the Alto and Piano player were switched out numerous times. While traveling in the FBCQ they sang at a
Church in Rock Island Ill. which was being pastored at that time by Rev. Earl Baker who was no stranger to the mission field
of Haiti West Indies. On Sept. 29th 1985 God called Pastor Baker and his family to Green Castle Missouri to start a
Church from scratch, little did the Johnstons know that God would soon call them to work with Pastor Baker in the summer
of 1986. While working at Grace Baptist Church in Green Castle, They traveled in the Fountain Of Life Quartet (FOLQ),
Bob was Ordained, they were blessed with another baby girl (Stephanie Ann), Bob took his 1st missions trip to Haiti West
Indies, and again God did the rest. On a cool spring day in April 1990 the whole Johnston Family took another missions
trip to Haiti together, but this time, to live there as Missionaries. In 1996 after many trials and victories that missionaries go
through, God made the rest of His calling clear to them, Yes God's call was for them to be Missionaries to the Haitian
People, BUT, not just in Haiti, God extended their mission field to include the entire Island of Hispaniola, both Haiti West
Indies and the Dominican Republic.
Though the Johnstons are currently still faithful in their calling as Missionaries, they have seen their family go through many
changes while living on the Mission Field. On Sept. 2nd 1995 their oldest daughter Dawn Marie Johnston went through a
name change, it is now Dawn Marie Baker, She was wed to their pastor's son Hal Baker, then in the early Fall of 1999 Eric
Scott moved back to the USA to find a job and begin an independent life for himself, Then, just
recently, on Sept. 24th 2005 their last child left the nest, and took on the name of Stephanie
Ann Jamison when she was married to a man by the name of Mike Jamison of Troy Missouri.
Though the children they love so much is now living in the United States, Bob and Mary
remain faithful to God's call of being sent to the Haitian people. Now, after being married
for more than 30 years, raising three children, and enjoying 3 grandchildren,
Bob and Mary Johnston still love the Lord, Each Other, Their Family, and Haitians.
